Birthing a Battery

You should not be working on high (or low) voltage electrical systems without proper training and safety equipment. Please refer to the EV Safety section for more information.

After removing all of the other high voltage electronics it was finally time to remove the high voltage battery. For this I needed the assistance of my trusty father in law Jeff. A quick look at the Leaf service manual shows that to do this you should raise the car and use a purpose built pallet on a trolley jack. The only problem being we didn't have any of that. We did have some bricks though...

After carefully positioning a pallet beneath the car that would take the weight of the battery, we were able to raise the rear wheels onto cement blocks and by incrementally moving the wheel chocks we were able to roll the car clear of the battery.
